Last week I received an email about the Boutique. In a nutshell, the person was unhappy with the Boutique because they thought our items were too expensive and wanted us to "lower our margins" so they could be more affordable. Normally, I wouldn't say a word about this because I realize that 9 times out of 10 emails like this are about something completely different than the Boutique. But yesterday, I spent the day shopping. One of the stores I walked through was Dillard's. They carry many of the same brands that the Boutique carries (and lots of others that we don't.) But I saw this shirt (see below) which is the same shirt we sell in the Boutique (we call it the BERYL). I sell it for $68. Dillard's was selling it for $89. My normal price is $21 LESS than Dillard's. I'm fine with the pricing difference. Why? Because, while I'm in business to make money (duh), I also created the Boutique to allow women to access quality items at reasonable prices. I could probably do a post a week of the items I see at Nordstrom or Athro or LOFT that are the exact same as what I sell in the Boutique (and we sell them for less). We can price things the way we do because our overhead is next to nothing. I don't have a warehouse. We don't have a store front. We don't have a staff. We only do a select amount of shows each month. This isn't a poor me or I am so great post. But it is a post to show that we do keep margins low so y'all can take advantage. And we will continue to do that any way we can.
